We don’t really know where the notion of the unicorn came form. These mythical horses with golden or rainbow-colored horn. Oh and if you didn’t know, April 9th is actually unicorn day, so what better way to celebrate, than to engage in some super fun unicorn crafts with your children.
1- Unicorn Puppets :
You’ve heard of sock puppets, but what about Unicorn finger puppets ? All you’ll need is some craft paper, some colored yarn and some scissors. If you don’t want to let the little ones handle the scissors, then you can go ahead and cut out unicorn outlines in the paper, with 4 finger openings at the bottom. Allow the children to decorate using glue and the colored yarn, and now they each have a personalized unicorn puppet that they can use to puton plays.
2- No Sew DIY Sleeping Mask
Who doesn’t love a good sleeping mask ? And who doesn’t love unicorns ? Combine the two and you’ve got the perfect craft, and yon don’t even have to worry about sewing ! All you’ll need is some felt in different colors, some glitter, a long elastic band and a glue gun. Cut the white felt into a sleeping mask shape adding little ears and a horn; then cut some sleeping eyes and eyelashes into the black felt, some pink ears, and glue it all on. Finish with some glitter on the horn, and there you have it !
3- Unicorn Rocks
If you wish to play into your child’s drawing and painting abilities, this may be the perfect craft for you. All you’ll need to do is find a very smooth rock and clean thoroughly. You’ll then need to provide an image as inspiration, and some paint, and let your child have their fun trying to recreated the image you provided onto the rock.
4- Unicorn Matchbox Notebook
To many matchboxes are this outdated thing of the past, but with the right tweaking and decoration, you can make something rather magical out of them. All you’ll need at some empty matchboxes, some colored sharpies, some colored yarn, and some pair. First, used the sharpies and yard to decorate the matchbox and make it look like a unicorn. then, cut your paper into small rectangles that will be able to fit into the matchbox. Place them inside, and voilà !
5- DIY Unicorn heart Paper Puppet.
You’re probably thinking, how can a paper heart look like a unicorn, well, here’s how to do it. Take an A4 paper and fold it in half diagonally, glue unicorn ears to the side with a tip, and cut a heart into the other side. Decorate by adding eyes, a nose, flowers and unicorn hair, and there you have it !
6- Newspaper Unicorn Craft
Are you constantly looking for ways to upcycle or resume your newspaper ? Well, here’s a great way to do that ! All you’ll need is a sheet of A4 paper, a newspaper, glitter, highlighters, some yarn, googly eyes, and some sharpies.
Have your child carefully cut out a unicorn head outline and then guide them on how glue the googly, draw the features and make the horn and hair using highlighters, glitter and yarn !
7- Unicorn Bookmark
This super fun craft is not only a great way to keep children busy, but it’s a fantastic way to encourage reading. A great way to go about it is to print out a unicorn outline and have the little ones cut it into colored paper. Have them then make tassels out of colored yarn that you can then thread through as a tail. The kids won’t be able to wait
8- Toilet roll Unicorn Craft
This super innovative craft is truly such a fun way to reuse something as mundane as toilet roll. All you’ll need is empty toilet rolls, sturdy craft paper, and some paint. The toilet roll here is going to be the body of our unicorn, so you’ll want to paint it white. Then using some white craft paper, cut out the legs, the neck, the head and the tail.. Proceed to then decorate you unicorn’s mane and tail in rainbow colors, and then put it all together for a nice little recycled unicorn figurine !
9- Paper bag Unicorn
It really doesn’t take much to make a craft activity super fun and adorable. Take this paper bag unicorn for example. All you’ll need is a white paper bag, some white and gold paper, some google eyes, and some colored crepe paper. The square bottom of your bag will be the unicorn’s face. Glue to it a round piece of paper with a drawn nose and mouth. Naturally, the gold paper will serve as the horn, and the colored crepe paper as there rainbow hair
9- Popsicle Stick Unicorn
Once again, hurrah for recycling. If you have some old popsicle sticks, make sure you give them a very thorough wash and rinse before starting this activity. All you need to do is ti to glue some popsicle sticks together either using a glue gun of just gluing them to a piece of paper and trimming it. Then, let the children decorate the in unicorn form using pens, pencils, sharpies, googly eyes, crepe paper, felt flowers…
11- Unicorn Paper Plate
This activity is great during or after any birthday party seeing as that’s when paper plates are the most available around the house. All you’ll need to do is provide some of the aforementioned tools such as yarn, felt, and craft paper, and let the children transform the paper plate into a beautiful unicorn
